From work to study

From work to study

I would say my student life in SIM Global Education (SIMGE) was rather unique. I am 32 years old and have had 8 years of working experience in the retail industry. So, my transition from work to study was not simple from the beginning as a result of some rust accumulated over my time spent as a retail manager. I chose to restart my life as a student with a Diploma in Management Studies (DMS). The syllabus, although rigorous, was taught at a realistic pace. I also realize that many lecturers here have prior, professional working experiences that played a huge role whenever they related their lessons to real life scenarios. Needless to say, working on group assignments was enjoyable regardless as a leader or team player. After graduation, I continued my journey with SIMGE’s partner university RMIT Bachelor of Business (Management) and minored in Finance. Their syllabus was similar to DMS but designed to a higher degree of challenges and expectations.

It was in MCSIM where I felt at home and made new friends. While being part of the International Student Communities (ISC), I also took part in various activities such as hosting the International Student Night (ISN) 2015 Dinner and Dance as an emcee and I was even given the opportunity to lead the ISN 2013 Musical cast. These events gave me a chance to build on my strengths and weaknesses. I had to learn to manage both student and staff expectations and improve on my forms of communication. In addition, I was discovered and appointed by Ms. Yeo Lydia, to become a Student Involvement Representative (SIR). I helped to facilitate students into clubs in the Student Involvement Centre (SIC) by leading activities and supporting orientation camps. Being an involved student gave me a meaningful experience, forged with both students and staff. To sum it up, I gained a wholesome time during my 1095 days in SIMGE and I look forward to what lies ahead for me.
