Having A Sense of Humour

Our SIM Students Toastmasters Club made a big ripple in the Singapore Toastmasters International scene last Saturday, 7th October at the Area B3/B4 Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest 2017.

Zubia Aman, an SIM GE Academic Excellence and Leadership Scholar studying at University at Buffalo, State University of New York, represented her club during the competition.

Despite the tough competition, she clinched the Championship trophy. She faced off winners from other clubs in Area B3 which included SIM I, Charisma and Thermo Fisher Scientific Toastmasters Club. These clubs consist of experienced professionals and speakers, including public speaking trainers. Against all odds, her speech titled ‘Chickens’, which portrayed a philosophical yet hilarious outlook towards life, deemed her victorious. The club’s Vice-President (Education), Arinjay Bansal, was the second runner-up, which made it a double win!

The next level of this competition will be the District 80, Division B Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest 2017, held at the Singapore Institute of Technology on 14th October. She will be competing against the other 5 Area level champions in Singapore and representing Area B3, as well as bringing SIM Students Toastmasters to greater heights.

We wish her all the best in the upcoming competition.
