SIM PAL Programme – PAL Leadership role

At the Student Learning Centre, we believe that the PAL Programme not only benefit junior students, PAL Leaders also stand to grow and gain valuable experiences and skills. Majority, if not all, of our PAL Leaders said that they benefited greatly from their experience being a PAL Leader; it also adds up to their CV which could help them in their future job hunt.

PAL Leader Role

  • Take the lead in supporting students through an ongoing, one-to-many relationship
  • Guide and facilitate students in specific subject in a form of group discussion
  • Serve as a positive role model and friend
  • Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together
  • Strive for mutual respect
  • Build self-esteem and motivation
  • Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them

Time Commitment

  • Make a one-semester commitment
  • Facilitate PAL sessions with the PAL Learners weekly for specified number of sessions
  • Mark attendance for PAL Learners for each PAL session
  • Complete self-reflection for each PAL session
  • Attend an initial 1.5 day training session and additional training sessions as and when required
  • Attend optional PAL Leader/PAL Learners group events, PAL Leader support groups, and programme recognition events

Participation Requirements

  • Be at least a year 2 or 3 student of our SIMGE or University Partner ’s programmes
  • Have achieved good academic standings with the PAL subject scoring an ‘A’ equivalent grade
  • Be interested in working with other people
  • Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Be willing to complete the application and screening process
  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
  • Attend PAL leader training sessions as prescribed
  • Be willing to communicate regularly with programme staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding facilitation activities
  • Have the passion to guide individuals and supporting people in need

When applying to be our PAL Leader, you may want to check when is our recruitment drive for each University Partner Programmes. Applications that are not submitted within each respective recruitment drive may not receive any updates till mentioned dates.
