SLAAN 2025: Celebrating Student Excellence and Leadership

On 9 July 2025, the SIM Student Development team proudly hosted the annual Student Leaders’ Awards & Appreciation Night (SLAAN) at the SIM Multi-Purpose Hall — an evening dedicated to celebrating their remarkable contributions to student life.

This year’s SLAAN recognised students who have gone above and beyond in leading clubs, mentoring peers, volunteering, and building a vibrant and inclusive campus community. Whether through event planning or peer support, their efforts have left a lasting impact on campus life.

✨ The Performance ✨

The celebration was elevated by performances from Esprimere Band, who performed “The Climb” and “Come Inside of My Heart,” and the SIM Guitar and Strings Ensemble, who presented “Beauty and the Beast” and “Fly Me to the Moon.”

Both groups captivated the audience with their heartfelt renditions.

✨ The Awards ✨

The evening was graced by Mr David Chua, Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Council (NYC), who delivered an inspiring keynote on the power of youth leadership.

🎓 Awards Presented at SLAAN 2025:

  • 🏅 Impetus Award

  • 🌟 Impact Award

  • 🤝 Peer Mentoring Award

  • 📝 Certificate of Appreciation

  • 🏆 Excellence Award

  • ✨ Helm Award
  • 🎉 Outstanding Event Award

These awards celebrate excellence across leadership, initiative, mentorship, and service — and reflect the heart, energy, and dedication our students bring to the SIM community.

My biggest takeaway is to accept that you might not know all the answers. Your members may come to you for guidance and you are expected to be a rock. This can distort you to thinking that you are always right and only your way works.

Do not let that perception creep in, always be humble and open to new opinions and experiences.

Jees Adams, President of RMITSC

Being in SIMAA helped me to hone my interpersonal skills by giving me the chance to be a part of a team and learn how to communicate effectively……I started to learn how to create teams and how to manage them so that we work as one functioning body to execute our goals.

Trevor Tan, President of Accounting Association

🌟 Congratulations to all awardees!
🌟

Your passion, resilience, and commitment continue to uplift and inspire those around you. As SIM continues to empower future-ready leaders, may your stories of service and leadership spark even more students to step forward and make a difference.

Our Tertiary Women’s team opened the month with a stunning performance at the One Paddle North East Race at Bedok Reservoir, conquering the 500m race to take 1st place. Facing off against other polytechnic and university crews, our paddlers powered through with intensity, trust, and sheer will — proving that hard work and unity always pay off.

🥉 3rd Place – Singapore Dragon Boat Festival

Competing in the fiercely contested Premier Mixed 500m race, our crew pushed through multiple heats to earn a well-deserved 3rd place finish at the SDBF. 🥈 2nd Place – Prime Minister Cup

Over a grueling 1000m course, our Women’s crew held nothing back at the Prime Minister Cup. With relentless grit and discipline, they raced their way to 2nd place, beating out some of the toughest university competitors. Their performance stood out not just in strength, but in the unity and determination that powered them across the finish line.

💪 4th Place – Prime Minister Cup

Our Men’s team took on the same 1000m challenge with grit and courage. Though they narrowly missed the podium with a 4th place finish, the race was a valuable reflection of growth and potential. With sights set on next season, this experience fuels our drive to train harder and reach higher.

SIM International Affairs Society – Model United Nations (IAS-MUN) at NTUMUN 2025

The SIM International Affairs Society – Model United Nations (IAS-MUN) is proud to have broadened opportunities for its MUN trainees by facilitating their participation in the prestigious Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations (NTUMUN 2025) Conference. The event was held from 14 to 16 March 2025 at the NTU campus.

Organised by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Debating Society, NTUMUN 2025 offered an outstanding platform for student delegates to connect, engage in discussions, and collaborate on important global topics within a simulated United Nations setting. The event featured a diverse array of committees that tackled critical international issues through in-depth debate.

Building on the global exposure gained from previous international conferences, such as the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN), IAS-MUN continues its commitment to nurturing the student delegates by strengthening representation at both local and international levels.

Over the years, insights brought back by past delegations and trainer teams have helped enhance IAS-MUN’s institutional knowledge and training standards. Participation in MUN conferences not only sharpens students’ diplomatic, research, and public speaking skills but also helps identify promising candidates for future international representation and training roles in IAS-MUN.

NTUMUN 2025 marked another milestone in this journey, with IAS-MUN delegates delivering a strong performance and receiving several accolades:

  1. Best Delegate – Simran Rajpal
  2. Outstanding Delegates (Double Delegation) – Aditya Hegade and Marcus Tan
  3. Honourable Mention – Iniyavan Sureshkumar
  4. Verbal Commendation – Mary Tok

(Note: While a Verbal Commendation is not a paper award, it is officially acknowledged during the conference and awards ceremony.)

These achievements are a testament to the dedication, resilience, and potential of our student delegates. Stay tuned as IAS-MUN continues to make strides on both the local and global MUN stage.
