Celebrating the Success of IMMIX 25/26 Final Event

The SIM campus came alive with culture, colour, and connection during IMMIX’s Global Village: Reel Around the World, the final event of the IMMIX 25/26 term. Bringing together students from diverse backgrounds, the event was a vibrant celebration of multiculturalism, creating a space where cultures were not only showcased, but experienced.

At the heart of the event were immersive country booths representing South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Cambodia, Russia, Taiwan, and Ukraine. Each booth offered a unique glimpse into its culture through themed decorations, interactive games, and engaging activities. From traditional games to cultural storytelling and film elements, students were invited to explore the world in a fun and meaningful way.

The energy throughout the event was driven by the enthusiastic participation of 458 students and 27 dedicated volunteers, contributing to an outstanding overall rating of 4.86/5. The lively atmosphere reflected the spirit of curiosity and openness, as students connected with one another while learning about different traditions and perspectives.

Event Highlights

One of the most memorable aspects of Global Village was the interactive experience at each booth. Participants actively engaged in cultural games, explored unique setups, and interacted with booth representatives who shared insights into their country’s traditions and heritage.

These hands-on experiences transformed learning into something dynamic and enjoyable, allowing students to go beyond surface-level understanding. The conversations, laughter, and shared moments between students from different backgrounds created a truly inclusive and welcoming environment—one that embodied IMMIX’s mission of promoting multicultural appreciation.

Key Takeaways

The success of the event also provided valuable learning opportunities for the organising team. One key takeaway was the importance of strong volunteer coordination and clear role allocation, especially during peak periods. Enhancing communication and structure among volunteers can further improve efficiency in areas such as crowd management, booth support, and activity facilitation.

In addition, the experience of engaging sponsors offered important insights into professional communication, partnership management, and expectation alignment—skills that are essential for executing large-scale events successfully.

Looking Ahead

As the final event of the term, Global Village marked a meaningful conclusion to IMMIX’s journey this year. Moving forward, expanding the volunteer team will be an important step in enhancing future events. A larger pool of friendly and approachable volunteers will help create an even more welcoming environment while ensuring smoother event operations.

Under Neon Lights: A Night of Culture, Community and Connection

Neon lights and vibrant performances set the tone as the International Students Network brought SIM’s international student community together for Neon Night 2025 – a celebration of culture, creativity, and connection. Each performance reflected the diversity within ISN.

INMIX (International Multicultural MIX) brought the international spirit of ISN to life through a journey across cultures, weaving together diverse dance styles into a single, unified performance.

The choreography moved from the vibrant energy of Mexican dance to the grace of Taiwanese movements, before concluding with a shared piece inspired by La La Land — symbolising unity, collaboration, and the joy of dancing together.

We wanted the performance to reflect a journey of cultures, where different styles come together as one. While the centre-stage setup challenged us to be more intentional with every movement, it pushed us to grow creatively and connect more deeply as a team.

Tradition met modern expression through MCSIM (Malaysian Community SIM), as the powerful rhythms of the 24 Festival Drums were reimagined with neon-inspired visuals and contemporary lighting.

The performance showcased how cultural heritage can evolve, embracing modern influences while staying rooted in tradition.

Inspired by the Neon Night theme, we wanted a futuristic, cyberpunk feel built around a clock concept — combining traditional 24 Festival Drums with lighting effects and fluorescent drumsticks to bring the idea of time to life.

Beyond the stage, the journey was just as meaningful. MYSIM (Myanmar SIM) shared that the experience was “a heartfelt cultural piece with a unique touch,” shaped by teamwork, sincerity, and a shared sense of pride in representing their culture.

This year’s performance was a heartfelt tribute to Burmese culture, created with sincerity and a unique creative touch.

Navigating a centre-stage setup and new formations came with challenges, but they pushed us to adapt, grow, and come together as one to deliver a meaningful and immersive experience.

More than a themed showcase, ISN Neon Night 2025 reflected what ISN stands for – a welcoming space where students from different backgrounds come together to celebrate diversity and build meaningful connections.

Annual Student Involvement Drive 2025: Where Campus Life Comes Alive

The annual Student Involvement Drive (SID) 2025 returned across two sessions, from 4 to 5 August and 27 to 28 August, transforming the Student Hub (Blk B, Level 1) into a buzzing space of discovery and connection. From sports and fitness to arts & culture, and special interest groups, students explored the many ways they could get involved and find their place in campus life.

Across the four days, students stopped by booths to chat with club members, catch live performances, and take part in fun, interactive activities. Dance and music showcases brought energy to the space, while casual conversations sparked new interests and connections, reflecting the diversity and creativity of SIM’s student community.

More than just a recruitment drive, SID 2025 was a celebration of student life, passion, and belonging. Enjoy the photo carousel below, capturing highlights from all four days and the moments that brought the student community together.

A New Venue and More Faces: SID’24 Recap

A New Venue and More Faces: SID’24 Recap

This year’s Student Involvement Drive (SID) took a fresh approach, moving from the usual Atrium at Block A to the Student Hub at Block B. This change in venue and layout reshaped the flow of the event, creating an environment where clubs could engage more closely with students. Live performances and interactive challenges, especially from sports clubs, added a dynamic element to the event. The improved acoustics made conversations smoother and the overall atmosphere more vibrant and intimate.

The proximity of club booths encouraged greater interaction between student clubs, allowing them to collaborate in guiding students toward clubs aligned with their interests. The layout also provided an excellent opportunity for student leaders to reconnect after EQuip Leadership Camp (read about the camp here). New students were able to explore the wide range of CCAs SIM offers, with 58 clubs participated — part of SIM’s impressive roster of 80 clubs.

Another notable highlight was the food rotation, with nachos emerging as a crowd favourite, something we’ll certainly consider for next year. The increased engagement was evident, as this year’s SID welcomed 676 students — an improvement from last year’s 520 attendees in 2023.

For those who missed out on this year’s CCA recruitment, don’t worry! You can still express your interest in your preferred clubs by filling out this form using your SIM email: CCA Interest Form.

We value your feedback! If you have any suggestions to make SID’25 even better, feel free to email us at student-involvement@sim.edu.sg, or let us know in the comments section. Do share your thoughts—did you prefer this year’s Student Hub venue, or the Atrium from previous years?

Picking a club to join can be overwhelming, and sometimes clubs don’t respond as quickly as you like. Don’t fret – Student Involvement Drive (SID) makes it easier for you to explore and choose the right club!

What is SID?

SID is an annual event where students can explore a variety of clubs from different clusters, including Arts and Culture, Sports and Fitness, Special Interest, International Student Clubs, and Student Council. This year, unlike previous years where clubs were on rotational shifts, all clubs will be present for the entire duration of the event, ensuring you have plenty of time to visit them all.

Tips for Freshmen and Club Seekers

Joining a club isn’t just about having fun; it’s also about seizing opportunities and expanding your network. We highly recommend attending tryouts for as many clubs as you’re interested in before deciding which ones to prioritize. Remember that studies are still your biggest priority, so choose clubs that fit well with your academic commitments.

Event Highlights

In addition to exploring clubs, there will be performances and sports demonstrations from 11.30am to 3.30pm. Plus, you can enjoy freebies like popcorn and nachos upon visiting a certain number of clubs from each cluster! Please note that the food will only be available from 11am to 4pm, so seize the opportunity while you can.

Explore Myanmar’s Cultural Fair!

In a lively celebration of diversity and cultural legacy, the Myanmar community gathered for a Cultural Fair held from January 30th to February 1st 2024. One of the objectives of the fair was to illuminate the diverse traditions of Myanmar, ensuring their rightful acknowledgment. Myanmar’s cultural heritage encompasses a wealth of distinctive customs, rituals, and artistic expressions, often overshadowed by the global spotlight on other cultures. The Cultural Fair served as a platform to bridge this awareness gap, nurturing a deeper comprehension of Myanmar’s intricate history and traditions.

The event showcased a variety of traditional art forms, such as mini umbrella painting, vintage toys, traditional costumes, traditional makeup, and Chinlone (Caneball). Visitors were given the chance to actively participate in these activities, gaining a deeper understanding of their cultural significance. Additionally, both students and staff had the opportunity to sample catered Burmese cuisine.

As the Cultural Fair unfolded, it evolved into a hub of cultural exchange, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to celebrate Myanmar’s distinctive identity. Discover more about Myanmar Community as they dispel misconceptions about Burmese culture.
