Commemorating SIM’s Student Leaders’ Awards Night 2022

As event restrictions have lightened up just in time for this year’s Student Leader’s Awards Night (SLAAN) , SIM spared no effort to make sure that our first in-person SLAAN in years would go off without a hitch. This was timely as well, with 2022 being the decennial SLAAN for our institution.

SLAAN is an annual awards night where we celebrate student leaders’ efforts and achievements from the past year. From the Champion for Student Life award, that recognises a leader’s contributions to keeping student life vibrant, to the highly prestigious Helm award, SLAAN is a chance for us to show off the best of our student leaders as they receive awards on stage. We also affirm club efforts as well, with the Outstanding Event awards being given to clubs that have expertly executed their events in an outstanding manner.

Below, we have curated a gallery of images as well as a video montage to document the stellar night we had on this decennial SLAAN. We hope to see more of you in next year’s awards night!

CFA Institute Research Challenge 21/22: SIM Internal Selection Finalists

With the first round of the CFA having come to a close, we’d like to express our gratitude to the teams who’ve taken up this year’s challenge and given their all for their respective reports. This is no easy endeavour, with each entry impressing our board of assessors, making it a challenge to consider and deliberate over which teams will receive the honour of representing our institution.

From the ensemble of strong entrants, however, 6 have been slated to continue on the CFA journey as finalists for SIM’s internal round of selection. These teams are as follows:

  1. North Bridge Capital – Ting Hock Loong, Gwyneth Goh Yu Xi, Charmaine Gene Lim, Eugene Chan Jun Hong, Wang Chloe
  2. Overture Capital – Travis Chua Wen Kai, Lee Jun Hong Melvin, Wong Dai Ying, Jeslyn Lim Yi Ping, Lee De Jun Aloysius
  3. White Knights – Gerald Tan Yong Keng, Andrew Lee Hong Wei, Vince Gan Kok Ching, Sasidharan Subbiah
  4. Nikitis – Kew Shen Han, Shannen Davelyn Kosashi, Ros Linda, Lim Yih Hong Jerom, Felly Anthony
  5. X Capital – Chen Wei Da, Jeremy Oh Zhen Wen, Toh Yu Hui, Lim Xin Hui Ynez, Tammi Wong Silin
  6. L Capital – Chua Swee Zhi Nicholas, Riley Hale Aeria Jian Hao, Chor Min Jun Darren, Jeong In Lee, Quek Yu Seng Shawn

However, regardless of the results, we applaud each and every one of our teams for taking the leap and putting their best foot forward in this competition. For those whose road ends here, we hope to see you take another try next year. And for the rest, we wish them all the best as they polish their reports up for the next stage of the competition!

Update: White Knights, our representative team for the local CFA round, went head to head against the other universities’ teams in February 2022. While they did not manage to place, we applaud their stellar performance and all the effort they’ve put in to their cases and this challenge as a whole. Thank you White Knights for doing SIM proud!

Silver Generation Office Ambassador Programme

At SIM, we believe in integrating holistic learning approaches to equip students with skills that will allow them to thrive in the real world.

Community service and giving back to society are fundaments of student life. Students are empowered with relevant skills through exposure and opportunities to take part in community engaging events. Taking part in such events will cultivate a volunteerism and socially involved student body which will make a more caring and inclusive society.

Incorporating students in community engagement will strengthen social awareness, cultivating a community of compassionate individuals committed in making a positive impact in society.

It will also allow students to gain more insights on community issues, their underlying causes and simultaneously allow them to better understand the concept of service learning and realise their strengths.

More details on how to obtain micro-credentialing whilst gaining important life skills will be shared in an info session. We have invited our partner organisation, the Silver Generation Office (Ang Mo Kio Satellite Office) to join in the info session and share more about the programme.

Date: Tuesday, 25 January 2022
